2018 Youth of the Year Representative - Keon

Keon has been a member of the Boys & Girls Club – Chippewa Falls Center since the Club opened in December in 2012. He credits the Club for keeping him on a positive path even when things around him were pulling him away from the positive Club influence. Keon began experiencing with drugs and alcohol to deal with some of his struggles and began coming to the Club less and less. During this time, he was suspended from school, which caused his use of drugs and alcohol to intensify. It was during these times, that Keon needed the Club the most as he soon recognized the negative influences were beginning to take over his life. It was then that Keon turned back to the Club for help. Slowly, through the efforts of the staff, life began to take a turn for the better again. As Keon states, “The staff at the Boys & Girls Club really cared about me, even when I was not choosing the best path for myself. They held me accountable and really cared about me and never gave up!” His time at the Club kept him away from those negative influences and eventually helped to regained his vision back on the path to his great future. Keon is like a big brother to many members here at the Club and many look up to him. He hopes to continue to work with youth even after his Club days are over as his experiences at the Club has lead him to a passion of working as a teacher.

Please help us in congratulating our February Member of the Month,

Kaia P.!

Kaia is 10 years old, and has been a member at the Club since 2017. Kaia comes to the Club because it is a safe place to go after school, instead of being home alone. Kaia always has a positive attitude, and is willing to help the staff. Kaia always goes above and beyond when helping staff and other members. She always looks out for her little brother and helps him whenever he needs it.

Kaia's favorite program is STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). STEM seems to have no boundaries. Kaia can make and design an endless amount of things in STEM programs. Making and programming robotics is her favorite part of the STEM program. Kaia said that the Club has helped improve her schoolwork, because the Club always sets aside time for homework.

In Kaia's eyes, the best part of coming to the Club is the people. Staff always listens when she has anything going on that she wants to talk about.

Please help us in congratulating Kaia P.!

Meet our Advisory Council Member of the Month
Sara Grana!
Our Advisory Council Member of the Month is Sara Grana! Sara Grana is a Team Leader at Great Northern Corporation and has been a member of the Advisory Council since 2016. We are so thankful to have Sara as part of our team! Sara referred to a volunteer opportunity at the club by the late Mark Orendorff.  Mark was a longtime employee of GNC and a philanthropic mentor.  She was very grateful to serve on the planning committee for the Great Futures Dinner in April 2016.  Sara said, “Mark’s commitment to the community, and passion for giving back, inspired me to further my involvement and say YES! when asked to become an Advisory Council Member.”

Sara’s favorite Boys & Girls Club Event is Men Who Cook and she enjoys helping the members create centerpieces for the Annual Great Futures Dinner.

In addition to volunteering for the Boys & Girls Club, Sara is a member of the Chippewa Valley After Hours Rotary Club, and enjoys working with her peers to combat hunger in the Chippewa Valley.  When not volunteering, she enjoys all types of outdoor recreation, especially the beauty of Lake Wissota in the summertime! For Sara, the best part of any day is taking her Bernese Mountain Dog, Riley for a nice long walk!

Thank you Sara for all you do to help us give the youth an opportunity to chase their dreams!
